It was a great day to play cricket. On one side you have the Hill Country Cricket Club Ravens and other side you have the Round Rock Cricket Club Lions. Ravens went on a great streak, winning their final 5 games of the regular season to make the playoffs in dramatic fashion and defeating the Hawks in a close semi-final to make the Championship game. The Lion on the other hand won every game of the season to go undefeated and qualifying straight to the final. The weather was perfect with temperatures in the 70’s, with some sunshine and patchy cloud cover. There was an agreed 15 minute delayed start because of the morning dew. Lions won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Ravens opened with Captain Srikanth Chowdary and Mohan Vikki who had the Ravens off to a flying start. Their partnership ended on 69 runs after Basit Zubair got Srikanth out. Ashish Malhotra came one down to help stabilize the innings for the Ravens and kept the runs coming at a good rate. Ravens went in to the 15 over break with 97 runs on the board at the loss of 2 wickets. The Ravens were in a great position to reach a big total until Niril Patel was bought into the attack and jolted the Ravens with 2 wickets in one over, getting Ashish and Gopal Thani to give catches to the ever so reliable Mohammad Adnan.

Lions forced 2 runouts and bought in new batsmen that really struggled to score. Basit Zubair delivered a magical spell to get to his 5 wicket haul and getting the Ravens all out for just 142 runs on his final ball. He was supported by Niril Patel who picked up 3 wickets to help with that. Lions required 143 runs from 30 overs to win. Ashish Malhotra top scored with 49 runs followed by Mohan Vikki with 38 runs.

Lions opened with their top scorer for the season Majjid Zubair and their more experienced batsman Majad Ahmad. Ravens stared the bowling with Hari Chokalingham who bowled a maiden over to begin with. Through 6 overs Lions seemed to be cruising until the captain Srikanth Chowdary took the ball in his hand. He stunned the Lions with a double wicket-maiden over by getting Majad Ahmad LBW and getting Hashaam Abbasi to chop the ball on. Syed Abdul Nadeem was sent in to get the Lions out of the hole they were in. Majjid Zubair played his shots over and around fielders to keep the runs flowing. Ashish Malhotra was bought into the attack to break a 50 run partnership by Majjid Zubair and Syed Abdul Nadeem. He got Syed Abdul Nadeem to play an uppish cut that was ripped out of the air with some brilliant fielding by Karthik Iyer. Basit Zubair was sent in next to get the remaining 78 runs. Lions won the game in 20.1 overs by 7 wickets after Majjid Zubair and Basit Zubair took the team to the finish line. Majjid ended the game with 64 runs and Basit Zubair ended the game 36 runs. Basit Zubair was the Finals Man of the Match with his 5 wickets and going not out on 36 runs.
